The Best Time to Visit the Netherlands — a Season Guide for 2027
When to go: spring for the tulips and Keukenhof, summer for long days, autumn for quiet. A season-by-season guide with the Keukenhof 2027 dates.
Published October 23, 2026
The best time to visit the Netherlands depends on what you want to see. A quick guide to the seasons:
Spring (March – May) — tulip season
The famous season. Keukenhof opens in 2027 from 18 March to 9 May, and the fields around it turn into stripes of tulips, usually in April. Fresh weather, blossom on the trees — and the busiest time of year, so book early.
Summer (June – August) — long days
Late sunsets and mild weather: the best time for Scheveningen beach and the boats of Giethoorn. Also school-holiday season, so hotels are busier and dearer.
Autumn (September – November) — quiet
Fewer crowds, better hotel prices and autumn colours. Cooler and wetter, but the cities, museums and villages are just as good, and travel is easier.
Winter (December – February) — lights
Cold with short days, but the cities are lit up and prices are at their lowest. Good for cities and shopping more than for countryside.
In short
- For the tulips: April.
- For warm weather and the beach: July and August.
- For quiet and lower prices: September and October.
