Designer Outlet Roermond — why people ask for this one
Roermond is not a sight, it is an errand — and it is the errand our guests request most often after the windmills. It is the largest designer outlet in the Netherlands, laid out as an open-air village of streets rather than a mall, about two hours south of Amsterdam near the German border.
The brands are the reason people go. The reason people ask us to drive them is everything that happens afterwards.
The problem with going by train
You can get to Roermond by train. You will change at least once, the station is a walk from the outlet, and — this is the part people underestimate — you have to carry everything you buy, all the way home, standing up.
A good day at an outlet produces more bags than two people can comfortably manage. We have collected enough guests from Amsterdam Centraal looking defeated to know how that ends.
What we actually do differently
The van stays. Your driver parks up and waits for the whole day. When your arms are full, you message, and the van comes to you. Drop the bags, carry on shopping.
No luggage limit. Whatever you buy goes in the boot. There is no allowance and no excess.
Door to door. We collect you from your hotel and take you back to it, or on to Schiphol if you are flying out that evening — with your suitcases already in the van, so you do not have to return to the city first.
The tax-free part, done properly
If you live outside the EU you can generally reclaim the VAT on what you buy, which on a serious shopping day is a meaningful amount of money.
The part people get wrong is the paperwork. Ask for the tax-free form in each shop as you pay — you cannot go back for it afterwards — then take the forms to the service point in the centre. The forms have to be stamped before you leave the EU, so if you are flying home from Schiphol, allow time at the airport. Your driver knows the routine and will remind you.
A straight answer about whether it is worth it
If you want a cultural day out, this is the wrong trip and Giethoorn or Bruges is the right one. Roermond is a shopping centre, an extremely good one, and the day is what you make of it.
If you came to the Netherlands partly to shop — and a lot of our guests did — this is the most comfortable way to do it.
Where is it?
Your day
- 09:00
Pick-up from your door
Straight from your hotel or apartment. If you are flying home later we can take the luggage with us and go on to Schiphol at the end.

Arrive at the outlet
We drop you at the entrance rather than in a distant car park, and agree where to meet when you want to unload.

It is laid out as an open-air village rather than a mall, so it is all on one level and easy to walk. Message your driver whenever your arms are full.

Stay later
The standard day is about six hours at the outlet. If you want longer, we can start earlier or leave later. Serious shoppers usually want longer.

Roermond old town
The town itself is a short drive away and rather nice — a medieval minster, a square and a good café or two. Worth an hour if you finish early.

Frequently asked questions
How much can we bring back?
As much as fits in the van, which is a great deal more than you can carry on a train. That is the main reason people book this rather than travelling themselves. If you are planning a very big day, tell us how many of you there are and we will send the right vehicle.
Can we claim the VAT back?
If you live outside the EU, yes — you can usually reclaim the VAT on your purchases. Ask for a tax-free form in each shop when you pay, and take them to the service point in the centre. Get the paperwork stamped before you leave the EU, or the refund will not go through.
Is it open on Sundays?
Yes, seven days a week. Sunday and Monday are usually the quietest days, and the week between Christmas and New Year is the busiest of the year.
Is Roermond better than the outlet at Lelystad?
Roermond is considerably bigger and has more of the premium brands, which is why people ask for it by name. Batavia Stad at Lelystad is closer to Amsterdam and cheaper to reach, so if you want a shorter day and a smaller selection, ask us about that instead — we will tell you honestly which one suits what you are looking for.
Can the driver help with the bags?
Yes. Message when you want to unload and the van comes to you. You are not carrying anything further than you want to.
What about children?
Child seats are free and fitted before we collect you. The centre is flat, open-air and pushchair-friendly, and there are places to sit and eat throughout.
